EMR + Improved Business + Quality Care = Improved Outcomes in 2014

Recently, Long Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC) providers reported in Long-Term Living’s annual readership survey that 2013 has been the year of why technology matters to business AND the delivery of quality care.  56% of respondents reported they already use an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solution and an additional 27% are planning for installation in the next year.

Unfortunately, almost half of respondents still report issues with staff resistance and connectivity pertaining to their technology implementation initiative, underscoring the need to have a solution that is highly configurable and flexible to meet clinical AND business needs.

If your organization is currently evaluating an EMR software solution, now is the time to partner with a vendor that has an integrated and comprehensive solution. The right solution should help to raise your staff's quality of care and productivity while lowering your facility's operating costs and errors.  LINTECH’s COMET™ is definitely such a solution.

LTPAC Providers: Easily Track your Resident Information

One of the many benefits to partnering up with LINTECH is having a robust suite of information about your residents.
LINTECH’s COMET™ Resident Information & Census (ADT) Suite collects and tracks critical information about your residents:
Pre-admission: Our module enables you to gather information on a resident before they are admitted to your facility. This advanced information allows you to pre-assign a room or prepare for arrival ahead of time.
Resident information: Increase your quality of patient care by treating each resident as their own person rather than just another number. You can gather and store demographic, biographic, social, financial, clinical information on each patient and even track personal items, like which residents like to read and how that person prefers their cereal.
Census: Access real-time information about residents and transfer room and board charges to the billing system. This saves your staff a lot of work and can even avoid unnecessary expenses.

Reach the End of the HIT Roadmap with LINTECH

Navigating Health Information Technology (HIT) has become increasingly important for companies in the LTPAC sector since last year’s release of the “Roadmap for Health IT in Long-Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC)” identifying five areas providers should focus on.
The five priority areas for 2012-2014 included:
1.     Care Coordination
2.     Quality
3.     Business Imperative
4.     Consumer-Centered
5.     Workforce Acceleration
Aside from the release of the roadmap, Medicare requirements have also pushed organizations to focus on similar important areas. Leveraging technology to accomplish higher quality care, underscore accountability and deliver overall efficiency is of utmost importance.
According to an article by LTPAC HIT, the next step after publication of the 2012-2014 roadmap was to, “Invest in emerging technologies, business models and workforce skill sets that support significant improvements in workflow automation, decision support, HIE, user productivity and consumer engagement.”
If your organization hasn’t already, now is the time to invest in a LTPAC partner and LINTECH is prepared to assist you. LINTECH’s COMET™ fully-integrated software solutions improves care coordination and quality by providing a complete suite of information detailing patient profiles with accurate, updated data. Billing and audit trails are driven by the system creating a robust set of reporting data and tools to monitor the overall business model, meeting the business imperative focus. With LINTECH’s COMET, a consumer-centered organization is achievable. Our system streamlines the business process, freeing staff and allowing more time for customer interaction. Ultimately, workforce acceleration exists upon implementation of LINTECH’s COMET through our new, innovative, LTPAC technology, which works to improve overall business processes.

LINTECH Participates in LeadingAge CAST EHR White Paper

LeadingAge Center for Aging Services Technologies (CAST) recently announced the release of whitepaper, EHR For Long-Term and Post-Acute Care. A Primer for Planning and Vendor Selection. LINTECH’s Chief Software Architect, Doron Gutkind was proud to participate as a member of the EHR Workgroup, along with other HIT leaders. Also, LINTECH is pleased to be one of the EHR vendors participating in the 2013 CAST EHR Selection Matrix.

The purpose of this paper is to aid LeadingAge members, CAST members and other aging services organizations in choosing an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system that fits the needs of the organization, its providers and consumers/patients/clients. This paper builds upon these two excellent toolkits by summarizing the important steps a provider should take.

The selection matrix focuses on clinical systems that are offered by and aims to show providers how EHR’s impact clinical outcomes and reimbursement. LINTECH's COMET Point of Care – Clinical/EMR program is highlighted in the matrix and offers automated solutions to improve workflow, productivity and the quality and accuracy of real-time documentation. Continuity of Care begins with the Electronic Medical Record

A recent report from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) shows Electronic Health Record (EHR) implementation across hospitals has exceeded government expectations. DHHS recently announced that it “has met and exceeded its goal for 50 percent of doctor offices and 80 percent of eligible hospitals to have EHRs by the end of 2013.”

EHRs contain information from all the clinicians involved in a patient’s care and all authorized clinicians involved in a patient’s care can access the information to provide care to that patient. EHRs follow patients to each care setting and help ensure continuity of care delivery. Electronic Medical Records (EMRs), a vital component of a patient’s entire EHR, contain notes and information collected by and for the clinicians in that office, clinic, or hospital and are mostly used by providers for diagnosis and treatment.

EMRs give providers an enhanced ability to track data over time, monitor health status and improve health care quality, therefore, they have become more valuable than paper records. Electronic sharing of patient records ensures accuracy in documentation, reduces duplicative tests, allows for better coordination of care, improves operational efficiency and ultimately helps to reduce hospital readmissions.

So what is on the horizon for the LTPAC provider?

As more hospitals and health professionals begin to rely on EHRs, providers will have an increased need to implement their own EMR systems in order to “connect” with the patient’s overall EHR throughout the transition of care.

While LTPAC providers are currently excluded from the Medicare incentives, EMR and EHR adoption has become critical to the broader health care improvement efforts that have started as a result of the Affordable Care Act.
Read about the 2012-2014 Roadmap for HIT in LTPAC and priority areas for action.

Mitigate Sequestration Cuts with Technology

As you are aware, the Sequestration Transparency Act of 2012 will go into effect on April 1st and includes a 2% reduction to Medicare reimbursements

As LTPAC providers struggle to absorb further reductions in Medicare funding, finding alternative ways to lower cost while continuing to deliver quality care will be vital. Technology plays an important role in ensuring cost efficiencies and the delivery of quality care. EMR technology solutions for LTPAC provide the opportunity to increase quality of care and productivity while decreasing a facility’s operating costs and reporting errors. Fully integrated EMR solutions make it possible for facilities to streamline business processes and care delivery in a cost effective way and potentially mitigate any negative impact from further Medicare cuts.

LINTECH is here to assist LTPAC providers and ensure they are operating most efficiently. LINTECH’s COMETTM software solution is designed to benefit virtually every aspect of a facility, allowing applications to share, analyze and continually update data from department to department. The Resident/Patient Accounts Suite can help improve your facility's cash flow while allowing your staff to be more productive. The COMET billing application streamlines the billing processes and helps maximize reimbursements. The application is so advanced it runs automatically, greatly improving the accuracy of claims by eliminating the need for human intervention. Users also enjoy full audit trails for every transaction as well as detailed claim information. The ancillary charge application integrates with the clinical modules and creates charges automatically based on clinician documentation that a service has been provided. This allows for greater quality care while keeping cost low. To read more about how your facility can benefit from a fully automated LTPAC solution, visit www.LINTECHsoftware.com or schedule a demo.

No Need to Worry About RAC Audits with COMET™

The Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 made the Medicare Recovery Audit Contractor (RAC) program, which identifies improper Medicare payments, permanent. RACs are paid on a contingency fee basis and the auditors receive a percentage of the improper overpayments and underpayments they collect from providers. Auditors use software programs to identify payment errors such as duplicate payments, fiscal intermediaries’ mistakes, medical necessity and coding.

LINTECH designed COMET™ to prevent and eradicate errors – all by having every possible data element from our EMR flow into our MDS Application. The errors that cause incorrect Medicare payments cannot happen with COMET™, because data entered into our applications flows automatically into the right fields, including the applicable fields in our Billing Application. Because there is no human intervention in the process, COMET™ users do not have to worry about failing RAC audits.

A New Year's Resolution: Operational Efficiency

As you know by now, President Obama signed the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 into law to stave off the fiscal cliff. Although the legislation delays the Medicare cuts to physicians, it makes significant changes to hospitals. Even though the cuts do not directly impact Long Term and Post-Acute Care (LTPAC), providers will continue to focus on ensuring operational efficiency in order to achieve targeted quality outcomes and financial goals.

Now that 2013 is in full swing, many LTPAC providers are setting cost-effective operational resolutions. The possibilities of increasing reimbursement, enhancing overall efficiency and saving costs through LINTECH’s COMET™ could significantly support facilities in their efforts to streamline care delivery.

Integrated solutions include:
  • Resident/Patient Account Suite: is the most efficient, effective and powerful integrated LTPAC clinical and financial tool for your facility's revenue cycle management.
  • Clinical/EMR Suite: comprehensive solution for every aspect of charting and documenting patient care, from tracking and managing, to assessing, planning, retrieving and reporting.
  • Financial & Administrative Services Suite: offers the most advanced, comprehensive yet easy-to-use LTPAC solution for managing your accounting and administering your business processes at the user, department and facility levels.
